Eleven couples representing five churches from the conference were inspired by the information they received on the Art of Marriage during the first ever conference wide marriage retreat held at New Prospect Church on Saturday, May 31, 2014. Members of the education committee indicated this was a topic that was highly requested and so they set out to find just the right presenters. Rev. Mike Cummings and his wife Quae were willing and delighted to share the vital biblical information they received from the Art of Marriage curriculum. Refreshments were shared, tears were shed and laughter was had by all in attendance as they group covered only 3 of the topics; Love Happens, Love Fades, and Love Dances. Difficult topics were explored and discussed like; the total ineffectiveness of a 50/50 marriage contract vs. a 100/0 covenant, gender blender role reversals, and what is biblical submission. All of these concepts were reviewed under the lens of practical biblical teaching. Copies of the material were offered for the attendees to take back and share with other couples or members of their churches. The final take home words from the training course were, “there is an enemy and it is not your mate”. The work of marriage is to help us become the perfect mate. A Christian marriage should show the world what God is like; it should be a reflection of God’s image.
