We recently had two wonderful young ladies from our Conference to participate in the first ever Regional Competition Elementary Battle of the Books at Fayetteville State University April 10th 2013. The three schools were Howard Hall Elementary of Cumberland County, Prospect Elementary of Robeson County and Upchurch Elementary of Hoke County. They advanced to this level by defeating all the schools in there county.

We are pround of these young ladies Madison Deese of Prospect School and Mara Hammonds of Upchurch School. Madison is from Union Chapel Holiness Methodist Church the daughter of Gene and Jackie Deese, grand-daughter of Jimmy and Diane Goins and Barbara and Gene Marshall Deese. We appreciate Madison’s wonderful coaches Amy Woods Locklear and Katrina Locklear. Ms. Amy is a member of New Prospect Holiness Methodist Church.

Mara is from Macedonia Holiness Methodist Church the daughter of Rev. Robin Hammonds and Tiffany Hammonds, grand-daughter of Paulette Burnes. Karen Parsons did a great job as Mara’s coach. The event was attended by both parents of each child with other support there as well. The competition was very intense and challenging. Cumberland was 1st, Robeson 2nd, and Hoke 3rd, GREAT JOB GIRLS!
