{xtypo_dropcap}O{/xtypo_dropcap}n May 8th 2012 registered voters in the State of North Carolina will have the opportunity to either pass or reject Senate Bill 514 known as the “Marriage Protection Amendment” to the State Constitution. If passed in simple terms it will mean that in North Carolina “marriage” will be defined as between “one man and one woman”. Several other states have already passed laws which support Homosexual unions without the residents being given the right to vote for or against such legislation. Therefore, we have a great opportunity not afforded others to pass an amendment in support of marriage and the family unit as a whole.
While opponents to this measure often try to tie it to the racial discrimination of the past this argument is not substantiated. Rather we hold that homosexuality is incompatible with Christian precepts and while homosexual persons, as well as, heterosexuals all stand in need of God’s grace. The homosexual life style is contrary to the Holy Scriptures And while we ask that our churches be willing to be in ministry to all persons we also implore them to stand against all actions which go contrary to the Word of God and the doctrines and Disciplines of our Church.
Time’s up.
