Sunday, September 12, 2010 Union Chapel Holiness Methodist Church celebrated several joyous occasions. We combined our Pastor Appreciation Sunday with Old Fashion Sunday that also fell on Grandparents Day. The day presented as a beautiful early fall day with plenty of sunshine. Preacher Steve Locklear was the wonderful guest speaker who is also a former pastor of Union Chapel Holiness Methodist Church who resides with his family in Pembroke, NC. His message included recollections of times of old and the sense that God is always the faithful hand that catches us when we fall. The service closed with special music from Pastor Willie’s Scott’s granddaughter, Christy Scott.
Actually, several of our members got into the spirit of the celebration and dressed in their traditional best; from bonnets and aprons to overalls and suspenders. Rev. Willie Scott who was accompanied by his family was overwhelmed when he was presented with unexpected gifts from the congregation and a special gift from the Youth for Christ presented by Mrs. Diane Goins including cards from all the Sunday School Classes that were signed by those in attendance. We ended with a luncheon in the fellowship hall with a feast of fantastic food and fabulous fellowship– a fitting end to a fun and enlightening celebration! Thanks to all who helped make this “Old Fashioned Sunday and Pastor Appreciation Day” possible!
