God stated in His word that we are supposed to show respect and appreciation to our elders –“‘Stand up in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the LORD.” (Leviticus 19:32 NIV). With this in mind, Riverside set aside Sunday, September 11th as Senior Appreciation/Old Fashion Day. This day was created as a day to support, honor and show appreciation to our seniors and to recognize their valuable contributions to our church and community.

The church celebrated the day in many ways. Several dressed in clothes from years ago – men in bib overalls and suspenders and ladies in bonnets and aprons could be seen throughout the church. The adult choir honored our seniors with special music. Bro. Marvin challenged our seniors and the entire congregation from the Word. Then, everyone enjoyed a great lunch prepared by the ladies of the church. The day concluded with each senior being presented with a decorated candy jar full of “sweets for the sweet”! Overall, an excellent day of fun, food and fellowship honoring our seniors and our past.
