Cherokee Chapel Holiness Methodist Church has ran a summer camp for underpriviledged children, 2nd through 6th grade for the past 2 years. The Church makes a concerted effort to recruit children who normally do not attend Church. All children are welcome and no child is denied. The Church has formed a partnership with Sacred Pathways, Campbell Soup and Oxendine Elementary School. Through this partnership, we have enrolled over 200 children in the past 2 years.
The children are taught basic christian values, and principles. They are provided 2 hot meals each day, breakfast and lunch. Recreation and craft time is planned for each day.
We have over 40 volunteers who support the camp. The volunteers teach the children, prepare the meals and provide transportation.
Sacred Pathways arranges for a dental van to visit the camp. This is a full service dental service. The children receive an oral exam, cleaning, fillings and extraction. Oxendine Elementary School provides free lunch to the children, Monday throughThursday. Sacred Pathways provides breakfast and lunch food, snacks and deserts.
The coordinated efforts of the partners and volunteers result in a successful summer camp.
God has truly blessed Cherokee Chapel Holiness Methodist Church and the community. We are allowed to reach out into the community to affect the lives of children in a positive manner.
The harvest is great, but the laborers are few. But before there can be a harvest, seeds must be planted. Thank God for trusting and enabling us to be planters.
